St. George's Day is known as the Feast of Saint George by Palestinians and is
celebrated in the Monastery of St. George in al-Khader, near Bethlehem. It is also
known as Georgemas.
Saint George of Lydda a Roman soldier in the Guard of Emperor Diocletian, venerated
as a Christian martyr. He is regarded as one of the most prominent military saints.
In Georgia, it is celebrated every year on 23 November. It's a very important day for
Georgians, schools and Universities are closed and everyone eats Georgian traditional
food, and goes to church.
In Bulgaria, is a public holiday on 6 May. A common ritual is to prepare and eat a
whole lamb and the fact that St. George is the patron saint of shepherds. It is also the Day of the Bulgarian Army.
