Chaco Armistice is celebrated on June 12, 1935. It commemorates the Chaco War
was fought between Bolivia and Paraguay over control of a great part of the Gran Chaco
region of South America.
About 100,000 men lost their lives in the war. The war took place from 15 June 1932 to
10 June 1935.
In fact, of the war's 100,000 casualties, more died from diseases such as malaria and
other infections than from the actual fighting. 57,000 of the total, were Bolivian.
On November 27, 1934, Bolivian generals, frustrated by the progress of the war and
Paraguayan won the victory.
Chaco Armistice Day is celebrated in Paraguay as a national holiday.
