Diwali is a significant festival in Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, and
Jainism. It is also called as Row of Lights, Deepavali, Festival of Lights.
Diwali is celebrated with several significant events, such as, Return of Rama to
Ayodhya, The Killing of Narakasura, Austerities of Shakti, Birth of Lakshmi, Krishna
defeating Indra.
The Festival of Lights marks the victory of good over evil, and uplifting of spiritual
darkness. On the day of Diwali, many wear new clothes and share sweets and
snacks.
It is highly celebrated in various parts of India, where people burst crackers.
In Trinidad and Tobago, communities all over the islands get together and
celebrate the festival. In Malaysia, Diwali is known as "Hari Deepavali".
In Singapore, the festival is called "Deepavali", and is a gazetted public
holiday.
In Sri Lanka, this is also called "Deepavali" and is celebrated
by the Tamil community.
It is a national holiday in Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, Sri Lanka,
Trinidad and Tobago.
