The Duanwu Festival is a Chinese traditional and statutory holiday. It is also called as Tuen Ng Festival, referred to as Dragon Boat Festival.

It is a public holiday in mainland China and Taiwan, where it is called the 'Duanwu Jie' and a public holiday in Hong Kong and Macau, where it is called the 'Tuen Ng Jit'.

Three of the most widespread chinese activities for the Duanwu Festival are eating zongzi, an angular rice ball wrapped in reed or bamboo leaves, drinking realgar wine, and racing dragon boats.

The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated by boat races in the shape of dragons. Competing teams row their boats forward to a drumbeat racing to reach the finish end first.

It commemorates the death of poet Qu Yuan, a scholar and minister to the King of Chu. Qu Yuan committed suicide by drowning himself in the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth month.

The celebration is a time for protection from evil and disease for the rest of the year.
