Krishna Janmashtami is a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna,
an avatar of god Vishnu.
Krishna Janmashtami is also called as Krishnashtami, Saatam Aatham, Gokulashtami, Ashtami
Rohini, Srikrishna Jayanti, Sree Jayanthi, Janmashtami, Dahi Handi.
In the early morning on Gokulashtami, ladies draw patterns of little childrens feet
outside the house with rice-flour paste, walking towards the house. Teams of young men
form human pyramids to reach the pot and break it.
The festival is celebrated in North India as Janmashtami, in the South, the Iyengars
celebrate the festival as Srijayanthi or Krisnajayanthi or also as Sri Krishnajanmashtami
and the Iyers observe the festival as Gokulashtami.
It is a national holiday on Bangladesh and Nepal.
