
Tabaung :
Tabaung is the month of Pagoda festivals. It is celebrated on the full moon day
of March Month. Tabuang festival is marked by the building of sand stupas.
Kason :
Kason is celebrated on the full moon day of may. Men and women of all ages go
to pagodas to pour water at the root of sacred 'Bo-Tree' or 'Bodhi' tree under
which the Buddha attained Enlightenment on Kason.
Waso or Beginning of Buddhist Lent :
Waso commemorates the Buddha's First Sermon and the beginning of the Buddhist Lent.
It comes on full moon day in July. Waso is also called Rains Retreat.
Thadingyut or End of Buddhist Lent :
Thadingyut is the end of the Buddhist Lent or the rains retreat. It is the festival
of lights on the full moon day in October. Thadingyut festival is full of pageantry, colourful,
fun fairs, music, dances and boat races.
Tazaungmon :
Tazaungmon is celebrated on the day of November. The offering of
'Ma-tho-thin-gan' saffron-colored robes weaving ceremony is held on the eve of the full
moon day of Tazaungmon in one night.
