Vijayadashami is celebrated on the tenth day, which follows nine days of Durga
Puja. It is celebrated on the tenth day of the bright fortnight of the Hindu autumn month
of Ashvin or Ashwayuja.
Vijayadashami is also called as Dasara, Dussehra, Dashain, Dashehra. Vijayadasami is more celebrated
on India. It is an official holiday in Bangladesh and Nepal.
Vijayadasami is the biggest festival in Nepal. The festival commemorates the victory of Rama, prince
of Ayodhya and avatara of Vishnu, over Ravana.
In Bengal, Vijayadasami is celebrated as Durga Puja. In Tamil Nadu, Durga Puja festival incorporates
worship of the goddesses Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Shakti.
The Dussehra of Mysore is also quite famous where caparisoned elephants lead a colourful
procession through the gaily-decorated streets of the city.
